After a incredible succesful season Dussel got a well deserved vacation and only had one races to focus on this season. Defending our SC win in Germany and our Nederlandse victory.
We knew that only achieving one of these objectives would make Dussel season a succes.
However dissapointing results from the rest of the team increased the pressure that rested on Dussel shoulders. If he was not to come close to his form of last year the team would see a downfall to, in the worst senario, Zyte division.
Remember last year we had 4 victories, 2 4th places and one 7th place in Germany and 1 stage victory and 4 2nd places in Nederlandse. Doing something similar seemed only be possible in nightmares of your opponents.
False start
After a dissapointing prologue (7th) we thought it would be hard to catch up with some other sprinter in the fight for SC. How wrong we were. Dussel prolongated his victories in stage 2 and 3 and things were sunny again in the battle for SC, Especaily when we got a 4th place in semi-climbing stage 4 and we won hilly stage 5 we knew we had SC in the bag and even failure in Nederlandse would not be disastrous for our ranking.
Flying
Stage 6 the GC riders had their second big test and with Dussel still in yellow we wanted to try how far we could stretch that and we managed to stay close and kept the jersey. TT stage was a stormy one and Dussel wanted to make up for his lousy prologue and played with the wind like never before result was winning the second most important GC stage and increasing our lead leaving possiblities to even win this race.
King of Germany
objective: stick with the peloton no matter what, don't react on attacks just ride up that mountain as fast as you can.
One by one the real climbers attack and ride away, one by one team mates and sprinters drop from the elite group. second by second the lead decreases. meter by meter the finish line comes closer. It's just a matter of speed and Dussel caught the finishline before time caught him. GC win was ours and just to celebrate that we won the last 2 stages to.
Nederlandse Tour: ''Not even the rain can stop us now:"
Rain halfway the prologue made every sprinter angry. All the GC favorites lost much time on their lead outs and the TT specialists. It seemed that GC win was for a Belgian TT'er who had to ride early. However at peddelen we still had hope that if Dussel still had his form of Germany it might still be posible and it was. Or as Dussel put it 'met 2 vingers in de neus'
We can't saw next season we can't do any better because we "only" won 11 out of the 16 stages so there is still room of improvement. ;)
